Laser cladding: sustainable, circular and enviromentally friendly
In an era where sustainability and environmental responsibility are more critical than ever, laser cladding offers an innovative solution for surface protection. Unlike traditional coatings that lead to material waste and involve harmful substances such as chromium-6, laser cladding enables components to be reused and restored repeatedly, without compromising quality or performance.
A circular solution: reuse instead of replacement
Instead of replacing worn-out parts, laser cladding allows us to restore and reinforce original components. This means:
Reduced raw material consumption: No unnecessary production of new components.
Less waste: Worn-out parts are refurbished instead of discarded.
Lower CO2 emissions: By minimizing the need for new materials and transportation.
More sustainable than traditional coatings
While conventional coatings like nickel-chrome offer only thin layers with limited durability, laser cladding enables the application of thicker, highly wear-resistant, and corrosion-proof layers. This significantly extends the lifespan of components, even under extreme conditions.
– Superior Protection against wear and corrosion.
– No hazardous substances like chromium-6, making it safer for people and the environment.
– Reduced maintenance and replacement needs, leading to less waste and lower costs.
Real-world example: from worn-out to as good as new
Recently, we successfully restored a severely damaged cylinder rod in collaboration with Magnaparts that had been coated with a conventional layer. Instead of replacing it, we applied a laser-clad protective layer, restoring its functionality and durability. This approach saved raw materials, reduced waste, and significantly extended the component’s lifespan.
