Laser Cladding Solutions

Your components operate under demanding conditions. Wear, corrosion, chemical exposure and high mechanical loads continuously affect their performance. The result? Accelerated wear, unexpected downtime and increasing maintenance costs. Laser cladding prevents this. This technology protects, restores and enhances critical components with an extremely precise, metallurgically bonded layer. With virtually no porosity, minimal heat input and strong metallurgical bonding.

The result? A longer service life and significantly improved resistance to wear and corrosion. Laser cladding is suitable for both repairs and the preventive protection of new components.

What solutions does laser cladding provide?

Laser cladding provides durable solutions for protecting and restoring industrial components exposed to wear, corrosion and surface damage. Using this technology, high-performance metallic layers are precisely applied to critical zones of a component — exactly where protection or restoration is required.

Thanks to metallurgical bonding and a virtually pore-free structure, a durable protective layer with a long service life is created. Laser cladding is suitable for both new components and repairs, ensuring that parts continue to perform reliably under heavy mechanical, thermal and chemical loads.

Controlled heat input and high positioning accuracy minimize distortion of the base material and enable precise dimensional restoration. As a result, component lifetime is significantly extended, unplanned downtime is reduced and maintenance costs are significantly lowered.

Solutions against galvanic corrosion

Galvanic corrosion occurs when different metals are electrically connected in the presence of an electrolyte, such as seawater or humid process environments. This can lead to accelerated degradation of the less noble material and represents a significant risk in offshore, maritime, chemical and energy applications.

Using laser cladding, Topclad develops solutions that significantly reduce and mitigate galvanic corrosion. By applying carefully selected alloys, critical material transitions can be isolated and electrochemical potential differences can be greatly reduced. The metallurgical bond creates a durable protective layer that remains reliable even under severe operating conditions.

Thanks to in-depth knowledge of corrosion mechanisms and materials science, Topclad provides solutions that not only repair existing damage but also help prevent future degradation.

Corrosion-resistant coatings

Corrosion is a major cause of material degradation, unplanned downtime and increased maintenance costs. Corrosion-resistant coatings are used to protect components and extend their functional lifetime.

In applications where high mechanical, thermal or chemical loads occur, conventional coatings often fall short. In these cases, laser cladding offers a fundamentally different approach.

Using laser cladding, corrosion-resistant alloys are metallurgically bonded to the base material. This creates a wear- and corrosion-resistant layer without weak bonding interfaces. The base material remains protected even under extreme operating conditions.

Industrial roll coatings

Industrial rolls play a key role in many production processes and are continuously exposed to wear, friction, temperature variations and product contact. Damage or wear of the roll surface can lead to quality loss, production downtime and high maintenance costs.

With industrial roller coatings, Topclad provides durable solutions for restoring and protecting industrial rolls. Rolls can be precisely restored to their original dimensions or equipped with wear-resistant and functional coatings tailored to the process.

Thanks to controlled heat input, distortion remains minimal and the roll surface can be precisely adapted to functional requirements. Depending on wear, corrosion and temperature loads, Topclad selects the most suitable laser cladding layer to ensure optimal operational performance of the roll and maximize equipment availability.

Where laser cladding solutions are used

Laser cladding is used across a wide range of industries where components operate under demanding conditions. Examples include the maritime industry, offshore, oil and gas, steel production, energy, mining, pulp and paper, and the automotive sector. Typical applications include hydraulic cylinder rods, propeller shafts, rollers & drums and machine components.

Across all these markets, laser cladding provides effective solutions to improve the performance and lifetime of critical components. The applications mentioned above illustrate the versatility and technical value of this technology.
